First Small Step to a New Life

Posted on

After four years of owning Condo Leach, I’ve decided to put the condo on the market. It was a pretty easy decision, but still an emotional one. I love being a new homeowner and having a space to call my own.  It’s the perfect place for a young adult(s).  However, for the last few months, I’ve been working to reevaluate what I want to do in both my personal and professional lives. My conclusion for both is a minimalist lifestyle.

While the condo is considered minimal to most people, it’s keeping me located in Delaware and adding to my frustration of being stuck in the small professional world that Delaware has to offer. Outside of Delaware, there’s more opportunity, more creativity, and less judgment.  I’m looking to shed my frustration and start a new adventure.

Researching living options for my new adventure – maybe Airstream living?! We’ll see where I land, but I’m excited for the chapter. Selling the condo is the first small step toward my new life. Here’s to a quick sale!

I’m comin’ back!

Posted on

After taking some time to evaluate the the purpose of door13, I’ve decided the purpose is the pure enjoyment of being creative and crafty and making Condo Leach my home (duh).

As a blog fanatic, I want door13 to be just like the blogs that I read religiously everyday. The key difference is that my favorite bloggers have gone through the hard work and hours to now blog as their job.

While the idea of maintaining door13 out of pure enjoyment might seem obvious, I think I got lost in the “what’s the point?” thoughts and just stopped doing what I enjoyed.

So ill be back in the next few days with the new door13! Happy weekend!

Inspiration

I know I’ve been quiet recently, but I’ve been taking some time to think about what I want in life and as well as what I want for this blog. 🙂 I’ll be back soon with some great content!

Until then, here’s some inspiration for you…something I saw over at VMac&Cheese for Victoria’s BTS series today highlighting Viviana from Fashion Truffles.  I’m trying to follow this as I evaluate things. Thanks ladies!

Calling On All Fathers

Posted on

I was at the doctor’s office today and while waiting to be called for my appointment, I happened to see this PSA video on Fatherhood. Not only did I laugh out loud because it’s funny, but I also let out an audible “Awww” at the end in front of the rest of the waiting room. I’m a cheeseball.

Nothing beats a father’s love and I often recall memories of childhood activities with my dad. So special. Calling on all fathers to make memories with their kids.

Best Dressed

One thing that I have always been obsessed with are award shows, so of course I watched the Oscars last night. Here are my choices for best dressed ladies:

I love that both Gwyneth and Rose wore dresses that were simple and elegant, but with a twist. Nice work ladies.

Who were your favorites last night?

Green Giant

My Super Bowl celebrations this year were very low key, so I decided to spice things up with a yummy guacamole recipe from one of my favorite foodie bloggers Jess over at Forgiving Martha! Jess stopped over to Camille Styles to provide the entire recipe in her The Perfect Bite series.  This picture had me at hello…

I ate enough of the green stuff to last me a lifetime. And that was just the appetizer. I know the Giants were playing, but I definitely felt like a 250 lb linebacker after eating my fair share of guacamole.

Healthy Guacamole Tostadas

*serves 6-8

  • 4 ripe avocados
  • 1/2 red onion, small diced
  • 2 small zucchini, rinsed and peeled
  • 3 limes
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 Roma tomato, seeds removed, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 24 round tortilla chips
  • cilantro, for garnish

  1. Prepare zucchini by removing both ends and roughly chop.  Add to a food processor and process until smooth.
  2. Halve the avocado and remove pit. Simply place the avocado in a bowl and mash it gently with a fork. Mix in the zucchini and remaining ingredients.
  3. Just before serving, scoop a generous tablespoon of guacamole onto each chip, and top with a cilantro leaf. Arrange on a platter and serve.

What yummy foods did you eat at your Super Bowl celebrations?

Life in January and February

Posted on

My former coworker and friend Kim shared a monthly photo challenge with me back in early January. The photo challenge is the brainchild of Chantelle over at Fat Mum Slim – and I think it’s genius! I can’t think of a better way to track and share all your happenings each month.

Here was the challenge for January:

Use the list above as a guide, and as inspiration, and take a photo each day. You can take it with your point-and-shoot camera, your big, fancy-pants DSLR, your iPhone {or equivalent} or whatever photo-taking-device you own.You can upload you photos to Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Path, Facebook, your blog or just keep them on your desktop {and not share at all}. Whatever you want to do is totally fine. You can take the list above literally and stick to it, or take inspiration and go crazy. If you’re sharing them on Twitter or Instagram – you can tag them with the hashtag #JANphotoaday so that everyone can follow along with you.

See my results below.

While my results are dismal in terms of the number of photos, I did have a ton of fun and can’t wait to complete the challenge for February. I promise better results! Who’s joining me?!
